WWHEL sponsors awards recognizing outstanding women who have
advanced the cause of women in higher education. The
Outstanding Achievement Award is given to a woman who is
currently engaged in her career. The Legacy Award is given
when determined by the WWHEL Board to a woman who has a
career-long history of contributions to the advancement of
women in Wisconsin.
Outstanding Achievement Award
Eligibility:
Women currently working at a Wisconsin institution of
higher education or in the public/private sector who have
made significant contributions to advancing the cause of
women in higher education. Nominees may include women who
work in any job classification (i.e., support staff,
non-tenure instructor and/or researcher, faculty,
administrator).
Current WWHEL Board members and individuals who have
already received the award are not eligible.
Suggested award criteria:
- Single event that changed the working environment,
leadership opportunities and/or advancement and/or
inclusion of women in higher education.
- A statewide initiative that has had an impact on the
status of women in higher education.
Nomination process:
Nominators should provide the following as a package:
- A brief (two page maximum) narrative outlining the
nominee's accomplishments;
- Two letters of support, other than the nomination
letter, from colleagues who were/are directly affected
by or knowledgeable about the nominee's contributions.
- The timeline for receipt of the completed nomination
package is March 1 to June 1. Any material received
after the deadline will not be considered.

2006 LEGACY AWARD
Eligibility:
Women who have worked at a Wisconsin institution of
higher education or in the public/private sector who have
shown lifetime leadership and achievement in advancing the
cause of women in higher education.
Current WWHEL Board members and individuals who have
already received the award are not eligible.
Suggested award criteria:
- Lifetime career that has supported an improved
climate and/or opportunities for women at institutions
of higher education in Wisconsin.
Nomination process:
Nominators should provide the following as a package:
- A brief (two page maximum) narrative outlining the
nominee's accomplishments;
- Two letters of support, other than the nomination
letter, from colleagues who were/are directly affected
by or knowledgeable about the nominee's contributions.
