Biography
Mari McCarty is Executive Vice President
of the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and
Universities (WAICU), a consortium of the 20 private
colleges and universities in the state. She serves as
liaison with the 24 groups operating under WAICU's umbrella
and supervises all WAICU publications. As coordinator of
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System for the
private sector in Wisconsin, Dr. McCarty works closely with
member campuses on data policy issues. She also speaks
frequently to students and parents on the topic of private
higher education and represents WAICU on several statewide
committees. She has been with WAICU since 1995.
Prior to her current position, she taught
at Buena Vista University (then Buena Vista College) in
Iowa, Alaska Pacific University, and the University of
Wisconsin. Her publications include Colette: The Woman,
The Writer (Penn State Press, 1981), co-editor and
contributor; "Possessing Female Space," Women’s
Studies VIII, No. 3 (1981), co-editor and contributor; and
Colette (UW Extension, 1978).
Dr. McCarty received her bachelor's degree
from Middlebury College, her master's degree from Middlebury
after a year of study at the Sorbonne in Paris, and her
Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
